Adaptive re-use: retrofit architecture & the climate emergency

I just made the monogram in Picmonkey and flipped it around.. You can see that doing this on a hard surface instead of fabric really gives a very imperfect result and the ink catches in any tiny bit of grain that there may be in the wood..

I’ve still got a couple of more stops left so make sure you come visit me if you’re in South-Western Ontario! Here’s where I’ll be:.

Adaptive re-use: retrofit architecture & the climate emergency

A lot of people spend hours watching renovation shows and hope to one day be able to bring an old beauty back to life with a little creativity and a lot of hard work and on the surface, especially on TV, the whole thing can seem pretty exciting and romantic.

I’m not saying that it’s not, but I. am.I knew I would love these stars again if they were nice and fresh and white.. We built these shutters using some basic 1×6 lumber, cut to look like little pickets, with some thin strips across the front for stability.

The whole thing is held together by wood glue.We just used clamps to hold it all together while it dried.

We actually made these quite a while ago, so no pictures of the process! You can see that the construction is pretty simple from the back though.
